During the year 2020 the Faculty of Economics in Subotica has a marked quite an important jubilee – 60 years of successful business and development of this educational and scientific institution. The Faculty of Economics in Subotica was founded in this city on 18 May 1960. During the last 64 years over 22.000 students have obtained bachelor’s degree, over 4.000 have a master’s degree and finally the Faculty has produced just under 300 Doctors of Philosophy. Graduates of the Faculty of have achieved exceptional careers as scientific and educational workers, members of governing bodies, ministries, successful businessmen and businesswomen and managers, thus contributing to national and international economic development.
The Faculty of Economics in Subotica operates in three locations. As the name says, the Faculty was founded in Subotica. Two additional departments have been opened since – in Novi Sad in 1977 and in Bujanovac in 2011. Lessons are provided in Serbian, and partially in Hungarian and Albanian languages.
The Faculty of Economics is responsible for the education of economists, managers, and business IT specialists. The curricula were periodically changed and modernized in terms of the number and content of teaching subjects and majors, but the Faculty is consistently conceptually oriented towards the education of economists, managers, and microeconomics-oriented computer scientists from its very foundation. Dynamic changes in the political and economic system had an impact on the formation of departments at the Faculty of Economics and changes in curricula. Today, the organizational structure of the Faculty consists of: Department of Agrarian Economics and Agribusiness, Department of International and European Economy and Business, Department of Finance and Accounting, Department of Management, Department of Business Informatics and Quantitative Methods, Department of Trade, Marketing and Logistics. In addition to departments, the organizational structure of the Faculty includes the Faculty Secretariat, as well as narrower organizational units - professional services: Student Services, Financial and Accounting Services, General and Technical Services, and the Library. The following centres are also organized at the Faculty: Centre for Lifelong learning, Centre for National and International Projects, Centre for Cooperation with the Business Sector, Sports and Recreation Centre and Centre for Foreign Languages.
The Faculty of Economics has been paying special attention to publishing. Every subject that is taught at undergraduate and master's studies is provided with basic literature. Continuous work on the publication of textbooks had an effect of raising their quality and relevance. Since 1964, including interruptions from 1976 to 1995, until today, the journal "Annals" has been published in the publishing house of the Faculty, in the form of two issues. The content of the magazine includes the results of research by teachers and associates, as well as experts from practice, with reviews by the most respected economists, computer scientists, managers, sociologists, philosophers from the wider regional environment. Since 1996, the Faculty of Economics has been publishing the magazine "Strategic Management", in which the results of the most eminent theoreticians and practitioners from this scientific field are published in English. The Faculty of Economics in Subotica, together with the University of Economics in Bratislava, is involved in the publishing of the magazine "Management of Information Systems", which is published as a four-issue, and which deals with the issues of theoretical and empirical research in the field of management information systems.
